Death threat text or email (Sum1 paid me to kill you )

Death threat SMS or email (Sum1 paid me to kill you)

Update: 23 July 2012

Dozens of Western Australians and hundreds of people across the rest of the country have been receiving a death threat text message which says “Sum1 paid me to kill you. get spared, 48hrs to pay $5000. If you inform the police or anybody, death is promised... E-mail me now: killerking24@yahoo.com".

Consumer protection agencies and Police in all the states and territories have been inundated with calls, prompting warnings to consumers about the hoax. The advice is NOT to respond and delete the message.

Preliminary investigation by WA ScamNet has found that the number the SMS is coming from is automated and that the text messages have been sent using web services.

A death threat email was reported to Consumer Protection’s Albany office in June 2012 by a man who was worried about the content and how others who received such an email may respond.

The subject box said: “YOU ARE ABOUT TO DEATH” and although grammatical errors continued throughout the email, the sinister message, which claims the receiver is being watched and needs to contact the sender to save their life, may indeed prove a worry to some recipients.

Hit delete. It’s a cruel hoax just like the Hitman scam previously named by WA ScamNet.
