In many instances, the first time a person realises they have become a victim of identity crime is when they receive a bill or statement in the mail for an account or purchase they don’t recognise. If this occurs, contact the company to find out further details about the statement or purchase. Establish if it really is unauthorised and if this is the case, explain your situation to the company. At this point, you should contact the police to report the crime. You should also contact your bank to make sure that there has been no other unauthorised activity on your accounts.
