DEMIRS impersonation scam

Scammers are contacting people by text message (SMS) and email, pretending to be from Department of Energy, Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DEMIRS) previously known as DMIRS.

The communications contain the DMIRS header and/or signature block.

The phone number attached is very similar to the actual DEMIRS number.

The scam email address also may slightly differ from our actual email address.

They are asking you to click on a link or attachment possibly in relation to a payment receipt, an account or an application.

These links or attachments can contain malicious malware which can infect and lock you out of your device.

How to protect yourself:

  • Always check the email address and contact information of the sender to confirm if it is legitimate.
  • Do not provide any personal information, click on any links or open attachments until you have confirmed they are from us.
  • All written communications from the DEMIRS will come from ‘@demirs.wa.gov.au’ or '@dmirs.wa.gov.au' email address.
  • If you are requested to provide information by email, details should only be sent to addresses ending in ‘demirs.wa.gov.au’
  • If you are unsure, contact WA ScamNet on 1300 30 40 54 or lodge a report.
